Two Female NBA Analysts Make Sports Broadcasting History

Following a year in which ESPN’s Jessica Mendoza made sports broadcasting history when she became the first woman to call a nationally televised MLB playoff game, Fox Sports commentators Stephanie Ready and Ann Meyers added their own 2016 footnote on Wednesday night when the pair became the first female NBA analysts to work the same game.

The pair, which announced the Charlotte Hornets-Phoenix Suns for their separate local affiliates, have extensive histories within the game.

Ready was the first woman to coach a men’s professional sports team during her time as an NBA D-League coach and became the NBA’s first full-time local TV commentator in August 2015 for Fox Sports SouthEast. Meyers is a Basketball Hall of Famer (who was even briefly signed by the Indiana Pacers in 1979) and a broadcasting veteran who serves dual roles as a Suns vice president and TV color commentator for Fox Sports Arizona.

Before tip-off, Ready tweeted her excitement about working alongside Meyers.

And Both local Fox Sports affiliates tweeted their support for Ready and Meyers before tip-off.

Hopefully, 2016 will deliver more “firsts” for women in historically male-dominated sports.
