In 2016, Vicedid a story titled, Inside The Strange, Psychic World of Indigo Children, about a select group of kids who some psychologists classified as having psychic powers, but who critics claimed just suffered from ADD/ADHD.
Some parents of these so-called indigo children did end up deciding to medicate their kids, and some did not. These parents maintained that their children had psychic powers, and their belief in their childrens abilities was so strong, it took precedence overthe advice of health professionals.
But who are Indigo Children, exactly? What are their powers, and how are they identified?
If you, too, were medicated at a younger age, could it be that you hada psychic awareness that set you apart from what was considered normal?
Although no scientific studies lend any credibility to the idea of indigo children, the traits they are said to possess are extremely similar to the characteristics that define almost an entire generation of millennials, who are often referred to as entitled and arrogant.
A sense of entitlement.
Indigo children are born with a sense that they are somehow special, connected to something bigger, and may feel lost in the world without a bigger purpose, because they have a feeling they were sent here for a larger purpose.
This might be seen as them feeling entitled, or overly confident, but the truth is that they just know theyre special, somehow different than others.
Because of their sense of purpose, or because of the belief in their destiny, Indigo children share a confidence in themselves that may be perceived as bordering on arrogance.
Indigo children have a somewhat rosy point of view on the world, a tendency toward idealism, and this can lead to having unrealistic expectations of both themselves and others.
They are believed to be highly critical of themselves, and they can project that criticism onto others, demanding more from the world around them than it may be prepared to give.
Indigo children are born with an ability to sense what cannot be perceived through the traditional five senses. They are able to intuit information and are born with a knowingness that they cannot explain, because language hasnt kept up with the progress theyve made in their discoveries.
Along the same lines, consider the progress millennials have made in their recognition of the LGBTQ+community, and how language has lagged behind them, leaving space for non-gender binary personal pronouns.
Distrust of authority.
Because of the strength of their intuition, indigo children have an innate distrust of traditional structures of power, institutions they believe are outdated, and a desire to overthrow these outdated structures.
They run into problems with authority without an understanding of where theyve gone wrong, or if there is even such a thing as right and wrong, naturally rebelling against any kind of dogmatic thinking.
Creativity as an outlet.
With an inability to relate to the traditional ways of the world, most indigos find the best way for them to express themselves is through their innate creativity.
Even those in a more 9 to 5 type job willfind a way to work within a more structured environment by maintaining creative flexibility in their jobs.
Their creativity is a channel for the psychic abilities they have that more traditionally-minded people can accept, and that indigo children can even be praised for.
The New Age movement has yet to produce empirical evidence of the existence of indigo children, as the traits most commonly attributed to them are so vague, they could describe nearly anyone. But its still an interesting thing to think about.
Maybe, just maybe, science just doesnt have it all figured out yet.
